Anniversary sessions are a really special thing for a couple to do. After the engagement session and the wedding, it’s rare for a couple to have a professional session of just the two of them for what often amounts to years after they tie the knot. Maybe they’ll get family portraits; maybe they’ll get a snap during cocktail hour by the photog at a friend’s wedding. But to actually take the time to do a session, just the two of them— what a special way to commemorate the relationship.

This anniversary session was particularly close to my heart. Kate Weinstein is a fellow wedding photographer who took me under her wing early in my solo career; I’ve second shot dozens of weddings for her, and, delightfully and blessedly, she’s become a close friend. She and her husband, David, recently celebrated ten years of marriage, and it was such a treat to do this anniversary session with them in Milwaukee, the same city where they said their vows a decade ago. (In fact, we passed their church on our way back from the session!) For style, we wanted an elevated look that referenced wedding attire in a subtle way, while keeping things casual and elegant— hence the black-and-white pairing. And, for a special touch, Kate wore her rehearsal dinner shoes!
