For her boyfriend Jody’s 50th birthday, Jodi— yes, they’re named Jody & Jodi!— went all out with a celebration that brought together his favorite people, with a theme that nodded to the year of his birth, 1974: disco.

In partnership with SILMAR Brands, who provided jewelry for Jodi to wear, I was delighted to capture all the fun and creativity of the celebration. Guests wore their best ’70s looks (lots of wigs, mustaches, sequins, and flared pants). (And to help jazz up all the costumes, there was a table of additional costume props, including bedazzled sunglasses and mirrorball necklaces.) A hyacinth macaw, Jersey, was a friendly guest who sat on many arms throughout the evening. Music was provided first by a DJ in the courtyard, and then, as the evening grew chillier, live piano-bar style covers inside.

Also of note: mirrorball decor throughout (along with an “Older, Wiser, Hotter” sign), custom cocktails, crepes made to order, a Middle Eastern buffet dinner, a masseuse giving chair massages to guests throughout the evening, and a cake positively covered with photos from Jody’s childhood and adult life. It was a celebration to remember.
